Like astronomy, geometry has written records spanning four millennia••• " ENCYCLOPEDIA of PHYSICS (second edition) Lerner-Trigg This project began with the immediate belief that there was more to the "Nebra Sky Disc" than just seven stars in a "cluster" said to represent the Pleiades of old. I never really accepted that interpretation as to those seven stars. Then, late one night, several hours after midnight, and 4 1/2 weeks into the project, those uneasy feelings were justified. I was extremely tired, and was pushing my­self away from the W9rk table I was at, when my chair caught a shoe that was lay-. ing on the floor, and I fell out of my chair. At that moment, as I was sliding out (and what seemed like an eternity to the floor), my eyes saw the Pleiades, a shape, and what was connected to that shape at a time and in a fashion long, long before telescopes or cameras, let alone our own lives here on earth, and how we see the Pleiades(star system)today. The sight of the Pleiades--(which has probably been, more than many things; spoken of, written about in epic and poem, sang of in song, and is also mentioned in the Bible three times: Job 9:9, 38:31, and also Amos 5:8), rising with the crescent moon in an atmosphere uncompromised by light/air pollution, must have been a magnificent sight for those who witnessed it to behold. The 32cm(12.59")disc originally contained 39 holes around its edge, the Sun, two bands(one on each side)to mark the Summer/Winter solstices(for a particular lati­tude), a sunship, a crescent moon, and 32 "buttons" used to represent stars; all of the above depicted in gold. I say the "Sun"--, in.that I don't think anyone would ever show the moon as "full" to depict it. The gold band on the left side has disappeared over the ages, as well as one gold button(e Cas), and other than some minor damage, the rest of the disc remains remark­ably intact. I say minor in that one can still calculate the number of holes around its edge, and that number would be 39. Some believe those 39 holes were used in the metonic clock cycle, and that as many as have, as many will continue to debate that mystery, I'm sure. I know my work on this project will--answer certain questions/set­tle certain debates. That said, I'm also certain more will be created. I look forward to the time the questions I still have may be answered. My objective at the onset of this project was to not only show what I believed to be correct solstice band angles, but to also respectfully contradict Prof. Wolfhard Schlosser's statement: "The stars on the disc are only meant to be a background on something like this. Of course, look­ing like the starry sky, but nothing more, no constellations". Note: This drawing was done on a scale of approx. 13.156"(across E/W line), and therefore; all dimensions in all illustrations are only in rela­ tion to this drawing, and not the actual disc itself, in which case the dimensions would be slightly less, though the ratios would remain the same.
